Milwaukee 2798-22CT vs DEWALT DCK283D2 Review

Professionals need the best tools for the job. Brushless motors run many of the top power tools on the market. Let’s look at these two drill and impact driver kits that feature brushless motors so you can choose the best set for you.

Milwaukee 2798-22CT M18 Compact Brushless Drill Impact Kit

Milwaukee offers a 5-year warranty on their M18 kit because both tools have brushless motors and are designed to be durable and tough. First, let’s review the 18V drill, number 2701-20 in their catalog.

The drill weighs just 2.8 pounds, but puts out up to 500 inch-pounds of torque and a top speed of 1800rpm. It measures 6-7/8-inches from front to back to help you fit it into tight places. Of course, since it’s a pro tool, it has a ½-inch all-metal chuck and all-metal gear case.

Then there’s the 2750-20 impact driver, also an 18V tool. It does the heavy lifting but comes in a tiny package. It measures 5-3/8-inches but weighs just a bit more at 3.1 pounds. That may be because it cranks out up to 1500 inch-pounds of torque and up to 2800rpm of speed.

Both tools run off the two REDLITHIUM batteries included in the kit. The batteries have an onboard fuel gauge so you can monitor the charge left. Of course, you may already know that lithium-ion batteries are excellent for power tools for various reasons. They handle working in the cold without problems and they are very lightweight compared to NiMH. Plus, you can top them off when you take a break without worrying because they don’t suffer from memory effect.

The charger included in the kit is handy if you have, or plan to have, other Milwaukee cordless tools. It’s a dual voltage charger that can refill both 18V and 12V batteries.

More features of the Milwaukee M18 compact drill and driver kit:

  • Comes with contractor bag
  • Battery warranty is 3 years

DEWALT DCK283D2 MAX XR Lithium Ion Brushless Compact Drill/Driver & Impact Driver Combo Kit, 20V

The DEWALT DCK283D2 kit won’t disappoint professionals who need a reliable impact driver and drill. Both tools have brushless motors and they run off 20V MAX XR Lithium-Ion batteries. They are designed to outlive brushed motors without needing maintenance, and they make efficient use of their power source. Each tool sports LED lights that operate on a 20-second shutoff delay to help you work in dimly-lit areas.

The impact driver in this kit is the DCF887, which provides up to 1825 inch-pounds of torque at speeds up to 3250rpm with 3600 impacts-per-minute. Three-inch lag screws don’t even faze it. It also has three gears and an all-metal transmission.

The 3-speed transmission with combined with the variable-speed trigger makes it easy to control the driver. If you need to work in tight areas, it measures just 5.3 inches back-to-front and weighs only 2.65 pounds without the battery. The hex chuck will accept bits as small as 1-inch long.

The DCD791 ½-inch drill is also compact and lightweight, measuring 6.9-inches back to front and weighing 3.4 pounds. It has a two-speed transmission with speed up to 2000rpm. The maximum torque is 460 unit watts out. (A note here on UWO versus inch-pounds—they are not the same thing.)

DEWALT offers two 2.0Ah MAX XR Lithium-Ion batteries in this kit. They each have an onboard fuel gauge. Although their capacity is rather small, the tools are compatible with the larger capacity MAX XR batteries sold separately. At least with the brushless motors, you’ll get a bit more out of them than you could with brushed motors.

More features of the DEWALT DCK283D2 drill and driver kit:

  • DEWALT offers a 90-day money-back guarantee, a 1-year free service contract, and a 3-year limited warranty
  • Comes with a contractor bag, two 2.0AH lithium-ion batteries, two belt hooks, and a 20V charger

Recommendation

If you need maximum speed and power with minimum size, go with the DEWALT DCK283D2 drill and impact driver kit.

If you’re already part of Milwaukee’s cordless tool system, you may appreciate the dual-voltage charger in their kit. They also offer a five-year warranty on the two tools.
